Cars to See at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show: 2016 Volvo XC90 T8
If you’re headed to the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, you should see the new 2016 Volvo XC90 T8. The “T8” stands for “Twin Engine”.
By design, this vehicle will change what you think a Volvo looks like. As well as drives like. We had looked at the new Swedish flagship in other places, and I was really excited to see this one live and in-person. Without borrowing too much from Dennis Green–I’m happy to say the new XC90 is exactly what I thought it was going to be. Strong and gorgeous.
What are the notables, the things that make this different? Let’s start with the new “Iron Mark”, or logo:
No more small and dainty blue and silver logo. Replace by a big, black, bold circle with “VOLVO” in raised chrome lettering.
Next, this is a plug-in hybrid.
It has a turbocharged AND supercharged 4-cylinder engine that puts out 316 horsepower and 400 lb/ft of torque. Which is enough for some vehicles. But not for this Volvo. The new XC90 ALSO has an 60-watt electric motor driving the rear wheels. It tosses in an extra 80 hp as well.
Third, this twin engine combination means it gets an estimated 41 mpg in the city.
Inside, it is as plush as a flagship vehicle should be. Check out the iPad-inspired infotainment controller in the center stack:

The video above is from the vehicle launch at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Good stuff to see there as well.
