Cars to See at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show: 2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
The Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV is to large hybrid vehicles what the Prius is to passenger cars. If you’re driving a hybrid SUV, the Highlander Hybrid was the vehicle that established Americans will buy hybrid sport utes.
For the 2015 model year, the Highlander sports an achievement. The 2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrid was named Kelley Blue Book’s Best Buy Award for mid-sized SUVs. What does this mean in the real world? It means the Highlander Hybrid retains more value on average.
Here’s a snippet of what Toyota says about the Highlander hybrid:
This model’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system pairs a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with a high-torque electric drive motor-generator to produce 280 total system horsepower. Its EPA-estimated fuel economy of 27 mpg city/28 mpg highway/28 mpg combined put the Highander Hybrid at the top of the three-row mid-size SUV class.
The Highlander Hybrid is available exclusively in the Limited grade and is equipped with standard electronic on-demand all-wheel-drive with intelligence (AWD-i).
That is excellent fuel economy for a 4,861 lb. vehicle.
The video above is a little bit of fun. The fine people at TheFastLaneCar.com try to determine how far they can drive a Highlander Hybrid on electric drive only. Along the way, frustrating as it might be for a couple of gear heads, they give a very nice overview of the vehicle as well.
