Cars to See at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show: Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept
Like the Kia Trail’ster concept, the engineers at big sister Hyundai are thinking in new ways about urban living. They’ve probably seen large objects jammed inside cars of all sizes while standing outside of urban home improvement centers and thought “hmmm…perhaps there’s something there…”
Well the “there” is the Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept. It’s nowhere as big as a pickup, but offers a bed–extendable when necessary. All-wheel drive with big tires to get through snow and the ice ruts that build up in streets and alleys.
It’s powered by a clean-burning 2-liter turbo diesel engine that delivers 300 lb.-ft. of torque, 190 hp, and achieves an estimated highway fuel economy in the high 30s. Plus, whatever weekend adventure you pursue, Hyundai’s exclusive HTRAC system provides all-wheel-drive confidence.
The Santa Cruz Concept has a footprint that is similar to a cross over SUV—ideal for maneuvering in the city and grabbing a tight parking spot.
Although the “weekend adventures” they speak of are fun, in reality most of you who buy this will be going to nurseries, the home improvement centers and hauling furniture. Just ‘keepin’ it real’.Click here for reuse options!
