Formula-E 101: The Powertrain of an Electric Racing Car, Part 1

Formula-E technology is like a completely new envelope for automotive engineers to push.  Along with the basics of acceleration and momentum, Formula-E grapples with how to expend as much power as possible while not expending the battery prematurely.  How to plot race strategy without telemetry.

We’ve found some wonderfully entertaining and wonky videos explaining the technical side of Formula-E.  These vids were produced by Craig Scarborough of the Formula-E Savvy YouTube channel.  If you’re an F1 fan, you may be familiar with Craig.  He’s an IT executive who seriously moonlights as a technical writer and commentator for Formula One.  You can find more of his writing at his website ScarbsF1.com

In the video above, Craig takes a hard look at the powertrain of Formula-E racers.  Good information in advance of this month’s E-Prix in Punta del Este.
