Formula-E: 10 Days to the Punta del Este E-Prix
The third installment of Formula-E’s inaugural year is set to start on Saturday, December 13. The electric racers come to Uruguay this time, at the city of Punta del Este, a sun-soaked resort town on the Atlantic Ocean.
Will we have a new champion? Or will Sam Bird or Lucas di Grassi leverage their experience as winners to win the first two of three races?
There’s been a lot going on since they waved the checkered flag at Putrajaya, so read along as we try to bring you up speed:
Fanboost is Open for Punta del Este
Fanboost is an interactive feature unique to Formula-E. Fans can vote for a driver to receive a 5-second boost of power-equivalent to 41 horsepower that can be used during the race. Fans can vote once from the Formula-E website, but can vote to their hearts content from a smartphone or tablet. Click here for more on Fanboost and to vote.
Formula-E in South America Will be Broadcast Live and Free
The race will be covered by both pay and free tv networks. On December 3, 2015 Formula E announced that America TV and Channel 4 Uruguay will cover the Punta del Este and Buenos Aires races live on broadcast television, opening the races up to many more race fans.
Ali Russell, Director of Media at Formula E, said: “I’m delighted to announce this deal with both America TV and Channel 4 Uruguay. South America is a continent with a great motorsport tradition and we want to ensure people can tune-in to watch an exciting new series like Formula E.”
Luciano Andres Foppoli, Executive Producer at America TV, said: “America TV is proud to announce its strategic partnership with Formula E. We share the same entertainment values and support the development of the latest electrical technologies.”
Mario Uberti, Sports Manager & Producer at Channel 4 Uruguay, said: “At Channel 4 Uruguay we are delighted with the agreement that enables us to show, on open free-to-air TV, the Punta del Este race on December 13. We warmly welcome the future that carries with it Formula E.”

Antonio Garcia to Replace Ho Pin-Tung at Punta del Este E-Prix
Spaniard Garcia will make his series debut at the Punta del Este ePrix on December 13. He is replacing Ho-Pin Tung, who is racing in the Abu Dhabi 12-Hour endurance race.
Garcia, who tested for the team during pre-season at Donington Park, said: “I’m looking forward to my first Formula E race. The track is new for everyone so for me the main challenge is going to be learning the car, in particular managing the battery. Having two races under his belt, Nelson [Piquet] should help me with this, as well as being able to analysis his data from Beijing and Putrajaya to help me get up to speed. During testing at Donington, I felt comfortable in the car and was lapping within the top five, so that’s where we hope to be fighting in Punta del Este. I guess I now need to start promoting myself for FanBoost!”
