LA Auto Show News: The New 2016 Mazda CX-3 Compact Crossover Diesel

We don’t often talk about Mazda here at HECN.  It’s not because they don’t make great cars.  One of my most epic rentals was a Mazda 6.

But they haven’t been making news with hybrid and diesel like the Germans or even Toyota.  Until now.

At this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, they unveiled their new compact crossover, the 2016 Mazda CX-3.

This is one good looking small crossover.

The US version of the CX-3 will come with a 2-liter gasoline engine.  But the rest of the world will choose between that and a 1.5-liter clean diesel.

“These are heady times for Mazda, with profits and sales exceeding expectations and targets both in the U.S. and globally,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO of Irvine, Calif.-based Mazda North American Operations.  “CX-3 complements the Mazda lineup, as it perfectly hits the target in a rapidly growing segment in the industry.  Customers are shopping for vehicles that are fun to drive, great to look at, fit their busy lifestyles and are an outstanding value, both at purchase and when it comes time to trade it in, making every Mazda a smart choice.”

The nice thing about these compact crossovers is the fact that they don’t look or perform like the econoboxes of the past.  The power isn’t all that; but all-wheel-drive in the Mazda CX-3 is a nice touch for winter.  Especially this winter.
