VW Plans to Sell 100,000+ Hybrid and Electric Cars in China by 2020

On October 28, 2014 the Volkswagen Group announced plans to market more than 20 hybrid and electric versions of their lineup in China.

“In the near future, Volkswagen will be offering Chinese drivers over 20 new-energy vehicles, from small cars to large-sized SUVs, from plug-in hybrids to pure electric cars,” Heizmann said in an article from Automotive News Europe.

VW envisions 100,000+ by 2020.  Which meshes “perfectly” with a 2009 Chinese government plan of 500,000 hybrid and electric cars on their roads by 2015, and 5 million by 2020.

Yes it’s a little late–and a little short, but it’s government.  The Chinese government as well.

According to the article, VW plans to launch the new e-Up next year, along with the e-Golf and the Golf PHEV in subsequent years.

I would imagine at some point you’d expect to hear an announcement from VW that there will be testing of their entire line of hybrids and electrics for the Chinese market.
