Lamborghini in Paris: the Asterion Plug-in Hybrid Concept
On Wednesday, October 2nd, Lamborghini introduced a new hypercar concept at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
This is the new Lamborghini Asterion. Lamborghini introduced this new hypercar at the 2014 Paris Auto Show. Big deal, you say? Another super-fast, super-sleek, Italian tourer for the Amalfi Coast?
Stuff your snark, this new hypercar is a plug-in hybrid. Just like a Toyota Prius C, but for big boys.
Let that sink in. The new Lamborghini Asterion is a V10 5.2-liter, naturally aspirated engine combined with three electric motors that generate 910 horsepower. It accelerates from 0-62 in 3.0 seconds with a top speed of 198 mph. And you plug it in at night.
Green cars go pretty frakkin’ fast, indeed
Please take note, this is an Italian plug-in hybrid hypercar, not a supercar. The Asterion instantly joins the realm of the Pagani Huayras, Bugatti Veyrons, and McLaren P1s. Sexy and fast to the tenth power.
Conceived and developed entirely in-house by Lamborghini, the Asterion LPI 910-4 takes the design and cutting-edge engineering expertise found in the current Lamborghini product range, adding innovative hybrid technology, creating thus a Lamborghini that is clearly different – with a new, unexpected and sensual design, in line with the technical characteristics of the car – but yet is still unmistakably a Lamborghini.
I’m stunned by the looks. That it can go 40 miles electric-only hits me pretty hard too.
