Is it Time for an All Wheel Drive Toyota Prius?

According to Koei Saga (as quoted by Automotive News Europe), senior managing officer in charge of powertrain development for Toyota, big changes are in store for the ubiquitous Toyota Prius:

“The batteries will be renewed. Everything will be revised. And I think we will come up with a fuel economy that will surprise everyone,” Saga said, without giving figures.

As part of this back-to-the-drawing board exercise, one of the options is all wheel drive.

Autobloggreen.com thinks that the new powertrain will be similar to the one in Lexus’ 2015 NX 300h:

…we think the NX 300h is one of the more interesting hybrids on the market, due in large part to its innovative all-wheel-drive system and relatively sporty driving dynamics….

Does this mean all Prius variants will get AWD?  Or just the Prius X, the big one?  Or will we see an even larger Prius, extending the brand to 5 models?

What do you think?  Is it time for an all wheel drive Toyota Prius?
